Our Daylily Display Garden
The society’s daylily bed at the Montgomery Botanical Gardens at Oak Park showcases the work of Region 14 hybridizers, and it’s open for everyone to enjoy.
The story of the bed
In the spring of 2019, on behalf of the Montgomery Area Daylily Society, Oliver Billingslea designed a new daylily display bed at the Oak Park Botanical Garden. The bed features the work of Region 14 hybridizers over the years.
After an extension was added, the bed became an official American Hemerocallis Society Daylily Display Garden in the fall of 2020. It has grown to about 140 cultivars.
Oliver’s photo sequence documenting the garden’s development, from its start in the winter of 2019 through the fall of 2020, received the AHS Sarah Sikes Sequence Award in 2021.
Help tend it
Members work in the daylily bed on the second Thursday of each month. Rain-date changes are emailed to the group. It’s a relaxed way to learn hands-on daylily care, and new helpers are welcome. See the calendar for the next work day.
